• Història/History -Vers 1054: el comte de Barcelona dona en qualitat de feu el castell de Barberà (i la roca de Prenafeta) a Arnau Pere de Ponts; en els anys posteriors, s'hi construeix la fortalesa. -1096: un exèrcit musulmà assalta Barberà; el castell és destruït i els seus defensors, inclòs el mateix Arnau Pere, hi moren. -Primera meitat del segle XII: els hereus d'Arnau Pere restauren el castell. -1132/1133: els comtes de Barcelona i d'Urgell donen Barberà a l'orde del Temple. -Vers 1165: Pere de Puigverd (senyor de Barberà, per ser descendent d'Arnau Pere de Ponts) es resisteix a lliurar Barberà als Templers i, per a reforçar els seus drets, impulsa una important ampliació de la fortalesa. -Vers 1170: els Templers s'estableixen a Barberà, el castell és convertit en casa-convent i esdevé el centre d'una important comanda templera que disposa de propietats a diverses comarques. -1317: un cop suprimit l'orde del Temple i transferides les seves propietats catalanes al també orde militar de l'Hospital, es constitueix la comanda Hospitalera de Barberà. -Segona meitat del segle XIV: fra Guillem de Guimerà, comanador de Barberà (1366) i gran prior de Catalunya (1379), ordena fer unes importants obres d'ampliació que converteixen la vetusta fortalesa templera en un més còmode i refinat palau. Fra Guillem va morir a Barberà l'any 1396 i les seves despulles foren emplaçades en la capella del castell. -La guerra dels Segadors (1640-1652) i la de Successió (1702-1714) causen gravíssims desperfectes en el castell, tot i que l'orde de l'Hospital repara repetidament les destrosses per mantenir-lo habitable. -About 1054: the count of Barcelona gives Barberà (and the rock of Prenafeta) as a fief to Arnau Pere of Ponts; during the next years the castle is built. -1096: a muslim army attack Barberà, the castle is destroyed and all its defenders, including Arnau Pere, are murdered. -First half of 12th century: the inheritors of Arnau Pere restore the castle. -1132/1133: the counts of Barcelona and Urgell give Barberà to Kinghts Templar. -About 1165: Pere of Puigverd (lord of Barberà, because he is descendant of Arnau Pere of Ponts) refuses to give up Barberà to Templars and makes some important enlargement works in the caslte; the objective of those works seems to be reinforce his rigths on Barberà. -About 1170: the Kinghts Templar settle in Barberà; the castle becomes a monastery and the centre of an important Templar House. -1137: once the ordre of Kinghts Templar is forbiden and all their properties transfered to the Knights Hospitallers (also a mititary order), there is established a Hospitaller House in Barberà. -Second half of 14th century: Guillem of Guimera, Commander of Barberà (1366) and Master of Catalan Province (1379), orders to make some important enlargement works that converts the old Templar castle in a comfortable palace. Guillem of Guimerà died in Barberà in 1396, he was buried in the castle's chapel. -The war of 1640-1652 and the war of 1702-1714 brings about a lot of serious destructions in the castle, in spite of it, Knights Hospitallers arrange the destructed parts twice.
